Andy Brown

CEO and Co-Founder

From September 2010 to October 2013, Andy served as Group Chief Technology Officer of UBS. From 2008 to 2010 Andy worked as Head of Strategy, Architecture and Optimization at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. From 2006 to 2008 Andy was the CTO of Infrastructure at Credit Suisse. Prior Credit Suisse, Andy was at Merrill Lynch for 10 years holding various positions, including roles as Chief Technology Architect, CIO of Direct Markets, and Head of Networks, Market Data and Email. Andy also worked in chemical, oil and telecomms industry prior.
Andy is also founder and advisor of BizTectonics & Street Scale IT LLC, is a board director for Guidewire (GWRE), MoogSoft LTD,  CTO Fintech Innovation Lab, and advises CS Technology LLC, Wickr, EXOU, Revolution Credit, Illumio, Lastline, LMRKTS, DA Holdings, PernixData and Zscaler.
Recently Andy was a Director at ServiceMesh which sold to CSC in November 2013. He was a Founder of Desktone which sold to VMware also in November 2013. In addition, Andy was an advisor to Cyvera which sold to Palo Alto Networks in March 2014.
Andy holds a BSc. Honors degree in Chemical Physics from University College London.

Philip R. Gilligan

Managing Partner

Phil Gilligan is a Managing Partner at Sand Hill East LLC. He is a new addition, joining the partnership from his most recent role at Deutsche Bank as Head of Innovation & Americas Chief Information Officer in the COO Group.
Phil has held numerous senior technology leadership positions within Financial Services including UBS, Merrill Lynch, Moody’s, Morgan Stanley and EBS Dealing Resources/ICAP. Phil is highly regarded as a decisive, strategic & innovative leader with extensive experience executing large transformational programs and souring new technologies in support of strategic business initiatives. At Deutsche Bank Phil was accountable for designing and developing a formal Innovation platform to establish the Bank as a thought-leader within key innovation ecosystems around the world. He led the design and launch of the “DB Labs” centers in Berlin, London, Silicon Valley and New York to accelerate the adoption of new technologies into the bank. Phil also took on the additional responsibility of Americas CIO, overseeing the major regulatory programs in the region.
Phil holds a bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Kings College London, and a Master of Science degree in Biological Oceanography from the University of Southampton,

Nanette Di Tosto

Managing Partner and Chief Operating Officer

Nanette’s primary responsibility is to manage the business and operational areas of Sand Hill. Nanette has a broad-based business background with experience in international policy, business development, and strategic planning.
Prior to Sand Hill East, Nanette was a Vice President at CertCo and managed strategic relationships, oversaw projects, directed its export licensing process, and defined CertCo’s policy positions on e-commerce and cryptography issues. She was elected Chair of the BIAC Cryptography Committee to the OECD, representing views of multinational corporations in the drafting of the OECD’s International Guidelines on Cryptography Policy. 
Before CertCo, Nanette was Vice President at Bankers Trust, Electronic Commerce where she managed strategic relationships and directed its international policy program on relationship manager and international policy.
Nanette was formerly a Director at the U.S. Council for International Business, representing the views of US-based multinationals to inter-governmental organizations and in the international policy arena.
Nanette holds a MA in Economics from Penn State and a BA in Economics from Gettysburg College.

David Bauer

Managing Partner

His primary responsibilities include building out C-Suite-as-a-Service capability and, privacy and security consulting. David’s most recent position was with Asurion Insurance Services, a provider of mobile device protection and insurance services. David held a variety of executive positions with Asurion for 9 years including Global Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Officer for Asia, and Chief Operating Officer for Asurion Australia.
Before Asurion, David was First Vice President and Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer for Merrill Lynch, for which he was named a Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leader in 2004. Other positions include Global Head of Engineering for Deutsche Bank, based in London, Head of Security and Internet Services for Morgan Stanley, and Director of Computer Security Technology for Bell Communications Research. David began his career as a programmer in the areas of computer graphics, language design, and network management at AT&T Bell Laboratories.
David holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Computer Science from Rutgers University.

Matthew Boskin

Managing Partner

Matthew Boskin is a Managing Partner at Sand Hill East LLC. Prior to joining Sand Hill, Matt was Co Head of institutional Sales/Institutional Salesperson at Susquehanna International Group and a successful Institutional Equity Salesperson at both Bulge Bracket Investment Banks and Investment Banking Boutiques for over 25 years.
In addition, Matt founded the New York Technology Sales Force at Merrill Lynch (the first ever specialty sales team at Merrill) and was transferred to London to expand the product globally.
He represented Tech Sales and Merrill Lynch in a number of technology investment banking pitches and has successfully raised capital for Initial Public Offerings, Secondary Stock offerings, and Private Company fund raises. Matt has personally invested in a number of private transactions and is both a current as well as a former Board Member for a few of those companies. Matt holds a BS/BA from Boston University and an MBA from Fordham University. Matt continues to maintain all of his Securities Licenses

Venkat Chalasani


Venkat Chalasani is an entrepreneurial executive with a strong interest in the intersection of technology, data, and finance. He has 20+ years in financial services experience with in-depth knowledge of Global Fixed Income (credit, rates, FX, securitized products) and Global Equity products. He has expert knowledge of financial regulations (FRTB, Basel IV, CCAR, Volker, Risk Data Aggregation), decision support/capital optimization analytics, front to back risk and finance infrastructure strategy, and electronic trading. Venkat’s led agile innovative solutions working collaboratively with the business, leveraging advances in Big Data (databases), machine learning/AI, and risk computing (cloud, in memory).

As an entrepreneur, Venkat has a rich mix of experiences as COO, in trading, risk management, and technology. He successfully designed an enterprise risk management platform for C-level executives at a Tier 1 US Bank and a regulatory capital /data analytics platform for a European investment bank.
Venkat previously worked at JP Morgan Chase (rate derivatives technology); FIS (FX trading and risk system), followed by Deutsche Bank (credit /rates derivatives technology), Global Credit Trading, Digital Markets and risk management at Merrill Lynch/Bank of America; Credit Suisse (Global Markets, COO-Regulations/Platforms) and Entrepreneurial /Private Equity experience in India /US (Commercial Real Estate, Risk Data Analytics).
Venkat holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from New York University (Tandon School of Engineering).

Daniel Gastel


Daniel Gastel is a management consultant with nearly three decades’ experience in both small and large scale firms, leveraging quantitative analysis, foresight, and technology to solve business problems and improve operational results. Skilled in both strategy and execution, Gastel has played leading roles in global initiatives at major banks, most recently at Bank of America, where he helped insource network management and developed an IT asset management practice that delivered hundreds of millions in annual savings, and at UBS where he developed the firm’s plan for a revamped digital platform. At Merrill Lynch Daniel developed and co-lead an organizational overhaul that reduced labor expense by 25% in 18 months (saving $100 million annually), an initiative one McKinsey partner described as “the best of its kind and one of the few to succeed in changing the operating model of a bank.” He also developed innovative operational disciplines that are now requirements in every relevant sourcing contract at the bank.

Prior to Merrill Lynch, Daniel ran Commodities and FX Options IT for Barclays Capital, and served as COO of a boutique financial services firm. Daniel spent his early career developing software for applications as diverse as airline scheduling and derivatives trading – applications known for user-friendliness and durability, some in use for over twenty years. His approach to business problems remains strongly influenced by his quantitative background and orientation toward scientific proof, as well as a keen sense of good design. He is currently helping a large hedge fund mature its financial management practice and is developing the operating plan and financial model for an investor group preparing for a large takeover.

Daniel holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Physics from Williams College and Master of Science degree from the Courant School of Math, New York University.

John Killeen

John Killeen is a seasoned financial services technology executive with over 30 years of experience leading enterprise-level technology organizations in the United States, Europe and Asia. He is a highly effective integrator of systems and people with deep experience leading through mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and organizational change initiatives. He operates with the highest level of ethics and integrity. John is a strong and charismatic leader with a proven track record of delivering pragmatic, value-added solutions to complex business challenges.
John is President and Founder of Latitude Strategies providing management consulting services pertaining to technology and organizational effectiveness.
John was the CIO for the Corporate Technology organization at JPMorgan Chase. Immediately prior to that, he was CIO for TD Ameritrade where he was responsible for the execution of strategic technology plans and managing executive relationships across all business lines.
John began his career at Merrill Lynch where he spent 22 years with increasing responsibilities culminating by serving as the CTO for the Global Wealth Management Division.
John received his Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Operations Management and Mathematics from Pace University.

Mark Kolb


Mark is an entrepreneur focused on the health care industry. He currently serves as CEO of BK Health and as the Chairman of Dorsata. He founded the life sciences consulting firm Taratec Development Corporation and led its significant growth before selling the company to Patni Computer Systems, one of India’s largest IT firms. Serving then as a senior vice president at Patni, he led their global life science business. Mark later joined Dynamic Clinical Systems as Board Chair, transitioned to CEO and then repositioned the company for a sale to Press Ganey.

Mark’s strengths are in general management, strategic planning, finance and operations. His career has included building strategic consulting services and software companies in both the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare IT space. He has raised venture capital at a number of these companies.
He has served on a number of corporate and non-profit boards, including Taratec, Dynamic Clinical Systems, Moda Technology Partners, the Somerset Medical Center and the NJ Technology Council. He currently chairs the boards of Dorsata and BK Health and serves on the Montclair State University College of Science and Mathematics Advisory Board.
Mark’s personal and company awards include the E&Y NJ Entrepreneur of the Year and NJTC Growth Company of the Year. He earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and attended the OPM program at Harvard Business School. He is a named author on two issued Patents for a medical device and an avid runner who has completed 5 marathons.

Mia Petersen


Mia Petersen is a partner in Lumen-Strategies based out of Nashville, TN. With over 15 years’ experience in prominent financial services and IT consulting firms, Mia brings a unique combination of strategy, marketing and IT expertise. In addition to being highly skilled at go to market planning, she also has a proven ability to crystalize complex challenges and help drive effective decision-making. As a Sand Hill East Advisory Partner, Mia helps technology startups with their go-to- market strategy and planning.

Previously Mia was Head of Strategy, Marketing and Engagement for the Group CTO at UBS. Concurrently she ran the technology governance process, providing a single coordination point for all interactions with Group Internal Audit. Mia also worked at Credit Suisse where she built and managed a global team focused on technology strategy, benchmarking and competitive intelligence. She also spent a number of years working for Gartner as a consultant in their go to market division.
Mia holds a Master’s degree in International business and language from University California, San Diego and a Bachelor’s in Asian Studies from Mount Holyoke College. In her free time Mia trains horses and rides competitively.

Kathryn Robinson


Kathryn is CEO of Lumen Strategies which is focused on marketing and business strategy consulting. Her ability to combine messaging, with pragmatic planning and prioritization of marketing execution tactics gives our clients a real advantage. Her passion for helping clients define technology in customer audience relevant terms and stories is born of her experiences on both sides of the negotiating table - as a business customer and a leader in variety of technology vendor functions. Based out of the Research Triangle Park area of NC, Kathryn’s experience spans over 25 years in technology companies in a wide variety of functional and global roles.
With Lumen Strategies, Kathryn has worked with the innovation divisions of large clients such as Intel, Aruba Networks, and a collection of Healthcare IT and analytics companies and startups. Prior to Lumen, Kathryn’s held a number of leadership roles across product/service management & marketing, networking design/operations, professional services practice leadership, sales and business devt, and solutions marketing / field marketing roles. She held these roles at Cisco Systems (16 yrs), Turner Broadcasting, Sprint Emerging Technologies group. Kathryn holds a BS in Business Admin with an emphasis in finance from the University of NC, Chapel Hill.

Norm Stone


Norm is a proven leader in the application of information technologies to business challenges. He is experienced in a broad range of IT disciplines including software engineering, product management, enterprise architecture, quality assurance, networks and operations. Norm has held many senior leadership positions including Chief Technology Officer of ICAP Electronic Broking where he led the technology transformation of global Foreign Exchange and Fixed Income trading systems. This required development of new and refactored software, creation of a 24x7 network operations center, outsource of a field services operation supporting over 1000 trading floors in 45 countries and creation of a new global private network.
Norm was the Chief Technology Officer of where he led the IT organization at this developer of e-commerce solutions for the Banking industry. He held several senior roles at Merrill Lynch including Chief Architect, Director of Client E-Commerce Applications and Head of the US Wealth Management technology infrastructure organization. Earlier in his career Norm was a software engineer and product manager at Control Data Corporation where he developed fourth generation languages and personal computer software products. Norm holds a MBA degree from Baruch College and a BS degree from CUNY.

Steve Williams


Steve Williams has extensive, expert knowledge in electronic trading, market microstructure, and quant/stat trading strategies in the derivative space. Since 1985, Steve has traded and managed risk and PnL for all asset classes in Europe, Asia and the US. He has led the architectural, functional and performance designs for trading systems including pricing, risk and trading models in these securities. Steve has managed large teams of employees and has started and sold a successful market making business. He has also worked for smaller market makers.

In 2013, Steve initiated, planned and executed the biggest technology outsourcing deal in the electronic trading space, where he transitioned the entire technology stack at Citicorp, including exchange cross connects and trader and development desk tops, to an external vendor. The net result of the transition was significantly lower costs, increase performance, and total transparency for the business line. Steve is a leader in business, trading, technology and quantitative strategies used in the electronic trading arena.
Early 2015 Citi asked Steve to co-author its equities strategic growth plan which was completed in the late summer of 2015. Steve then became Citi’s Global COO for Equities Electronic Markets. Steve is now an Advisory Partner at Sand Hill East.
